Good day, folks! I’ve got an interactive post for you all today.

It’s an opinion post. As in, your opinions!

As you all know, my upcoming book, SWITCH and Blue Eagle: A Superhero Sidekick Novel, releases on September 29, 2025.

In this short prequel novel to my main series WIP, we follow two main characters. There’s Switch, who is the sidekick to Blue Eagle just as he is in my non-canon The Adventures of BLUE EAGLE short stories. And there is Jasper, a villain henchman.

The story is a heavily character driven tale, with the internal and personal conflicts more key to the story than the actual supervillain plot. Although, of course, there is a supervillain plot set off by Blue Eagle and Switch’s archnemesis, Queen Venus. And this time around, she isn’t intentionally written to be a harmless villain like she was in those fun and funny short stories. She’s a serious threat.

So that’s the story I want to tell in the simplest, vaguest terms. And there’s a reason I’m giving you all so little information.

Because I want your opinion on a book blurb!

WHAT IS A BOOK BLURB?

Okay, most of you probably know what a book blurb is. But in case you don’t know, a book blurb is a promotional piece of content used to hook the reader and get them to buy the book.

It’s the write up that’s usually found on the back cover. Or right under the title and author name on Amazon.

Fun fact: Apparently, the use of book blurbs is incredibly recent. The term was coined in 1906 by American humorist Gelett Burgess, who used it on the dust jacket of his book, Are you a Bromide?, a book that is either a psychology book….or a comedy satire? I dunno. The blurb, ironically, is not really clear.

Anyway, at the time, books didn’t have blurbs on them, except for limited editions customarily shared at small, elite events. These writeups weren’t really called anything. So he distributed copies of his book at one of these events, and the dust jacket had a “hilarious” writeup with a picture of a character named “Miss Belinda Blurb” engaged in “the act of blurbing”. And so the name stuck.

I don’t get old timey humor.

What is “The Proud Purple Penultimate” supposed to even mean?

It’s nice to know that the term “blurb” has a similar but even more nonsensical linguistic history than the term “blog”. And you are currently reading a post on a blog about a blurb.

When did publishing terms just start turning into a bunch of sounds more appropriate for gross bodily functions? I guess in 1906!

Alright, I think that’s about it for the history of the word. Now for the potential blurbs for SWITCH and Blue Eagle.

Choose Your Favorite SWITCH and Blue Eagle Book Blurb

So I’ve already explained what the book is supposed to be. But pretend you are a reader who’s coming across SWITCH and Blue Eagle without any prior knowledge about it.

Which of these three blurbs would you most likely convince you to buy or read the book?

SWITCH AND BLUE EAGLE Book Blurb #1:

Welcome to Herald City….

It is a place where good and evil do constant battle for the fate of the world. Generations of brave men and women have put on the iconic tights, capes, and masks that make them recognizable as the ultimate champions of justice: Superheroes!

And few are as well known and respected as the Father-Son Duo of Blue Eagle and Switch the Blue Eaglet.

But not all is as it appears on the surface.

Switch is tired of being a sidekick. His father is always on his case, and the two have such differing philosophies regarding superheroics that it’s getting hard to work together. Worse yet, his power limitations may make it impossible for him to ever strike out on his own.

What a terrible time for their archenemy, mistress of all plant life, Queen Venus, to launch her boldest scheme yet.

Our heroes must put their differences aside and work together to stop her....or else. Everything is at stake. But the fate of the world may not come down to two superheroes after all, but one down on his luck man who must learn that his choices will determine who he is….and everyone’s future!

Don’t miss this adventure of SWITCH and BLUE EAGLE!

SWITCH AND BLUE EAGLE Book Blurb #2:

Welcome to Herald City, where legends wear capes, villains never rest, and the fate of the world hangs on every battle.

For years, Blue Eagle and his son Switch have been the city’s most iconic duo. But being a sidekick isn’t all glory. Switch is tired of living in his father’s shadow, tired of his strict rules, and tired of being told he’ll never be strong enough to stand alone.

When their old enemy, Queen Venus, unleashes her deadliest plan yet, father and son must find a way to fight side by side, or risk losing everything. But sometimes the greatest hero isn’t the one with the most power…. It’s the one who makes the toughest choice.

Perfect for fans of coming-of-age superhero takes, SWITCH and Blue Eagle delivers action, heart, and a fresh twist on what it really means to be a hero.

SWITCH AND BLUE EAGLE Book Blurb #3:

Welcome to Herald City….where legends wear capes, villains never rest, and the fate of the world hangs on every battle.

Switch the Blue Eaglet is the son and teen sidekick of Blue Eagle, one of Herald City’s top superheroes. But being a sidekick isn’t all glory. Switch is tired of living in his father’s shadow, tired of his strict rules, and tired of being told he’ll never be strong enough to stand on his own.

Jasper Clemens is just another faceless villain henchman. All he wants is to get out of the criminal business. But his debts to the mob keep piling up, and he's stuck taking the riskiest jobs in order to protect his family.

When a dangerous supervillain launches her deadliest scheme yet, it’s up to Switch and Jasper to stop her. Can Switch prove to the world he’s more than just a sidekick? Does Jasper have what it takes to be a true hero?

Or is Herald City doomed?

Perfect for fans of coming-of-age superhero tales, this short novel delivers action, heart, and a fresh twist on what it really means to be a hero.

The purpose of a book blurb is to give enough information to the reader to adequately convey what the story is about, but to leave out enough so that the reader wants to know more.
