A Cool Piece of NYC Speed Art I Want To Share With You

I needed to stop everything else I was doing to write this. Because I needed to share this with all of you.
I was on the train going to work today. In NYC. For those of you who take the NYC subway, you know that a power outage knocked out several train lines for the second time this week. Literally the same issue in twice!
So I’m on a completely different train than I normally take as a result, stewing in irritation as I am 45 minutes late for work (spoiler alert: I get to work an hour late). Is there anything that could possibly lighten my mood?
As a matter of fact, there is. A “speed artist”, a term I just made up for someone who can draw a full work really fast, is sitting next to me and drawing pictures of folks on the train.
At 34th Street/Herald Square, he asks if I want a portrait. I tell him there’s no time as I’m getting off at 49th Street, only two stops away.
He tells me no worries. And then he quickly whips up this:
He did it so quickly and so casually while we were chatting that I couldn’t believe it. These were short stops, maybe one to two minutes each. And he just banged that out from scratch.
Is it the best art in the world? No, of course not. But again, he made this while having a conversation with me in at most four minutes.
Thankfully, he gave me the okay to put this on my site. I didn’t think he wouldn’t have, but I felt it a professional courtesy to ask. I gave him $20 for a tip. A ton of money for something like this, I know, but he really made my morning. I was in a very bad mood before that.
I’d say it looks a bit like me, don’t you think?
I really wanted to give him credit, but my train had already arrived and I had to run off. I didn’t get a chance to get his name or any contact information or a website.
He did sign the back, but I can’t read it that well. I think his name is Orville? I’m not sure. Can you guys tell?
For now, I’m going to just call him “Orville”.
Orville, if you see this, please contact me. I want to be able to give you proper credit for your work which is absolutely going up on my Gallery page (I’ll count it as SWITCH and the Challengers Bravo related as it’s a picture of the author). If there’s a place where people can find you and work with you, I’d love to be able to route them there.
In the meantime, I hope everyone has a great day!
